The new airboat is being built. Photos of its progress will be posted as we receive them. The first three photos were taken January 17th nd the second three were taken January 27th
Lake Assault Boats (Division of Fraser Shipyards) is busy building another fire/rescue boat for the Lake Vermilion Fire Brigade (LVFB). This one is a 25’ x 8.5’ air boat to be delivered later this spring. It will add several new dimensions to the LVFB including year round (yes, this means winter too!) fire, rescue and EMS support.
Here are a couple general arrangement drawings of the boat.
Volunteers from the LVFB successfully completed their Firewise/911 grant objective of assessing over 1300 Lake Vermilion homes. One of the key components of the assessment was to provide 911 emergency service providers GPS coordinates for each home. Using GPS technology reduces reliance upon local knowledge and paper maps. Volunteers from the Lake Vermilion Fire Brigade (LVFB) will begin updating 911 signage in 2012, however we need some information from you first.
The lake has given up the ghost and relented to old man winter. There are even rumors of water access residence already walking across. Time to wax up the cross country skis and/or check the webbing on the snow shoes!
On November 16, Brigade I was taken off of Lake Vermilion right before ice covered the lake and is being stored for the winter after its third year of operation.
Again, this year, the Lake Vermilion Fire Brigade was the honorary sponsor for the Antique and Classic Boat Show on Labor Day weekend at The Landing. The Brigade volunteers were there to sell their merchandise and give hands-on tours of the Brigade I.
Brigade I was called out the evening of September 13th to assist two fishermen stuck on Treasure Island - it was windy and cool and their boat would not start. Brigade I got the fishermen and their boat safely to Life of Riley Resort in Norwegian Bay where they were staying.
The Lake Vermilion Fire Brigade (LVFB) was the honorary sponsor for the Lake Vermilion Antique and Classic Boat Show held on September 4th at The Landing. The weather started out to be questionable, but the rain held off and the sun would peak out every now and then to make it a pleasant day for the proud skippers to show off their beautiful boats to the many onlookers who "oooh'd and ahhhh'd" over them. Brigade I was also present as the "Honorary Guest" and was open to spectators to board and learn about it and the LVFB's mission.
The Lake Vermilion Fire Brigade was one of several sponsors and had several volunteers at the 2nd Annual Take A Kid Fishing Event on Lake Vermilion on July 20th. Hats off to the people who put together a very organized and successful day that was full of fun, excitement and good food. Over 70 fisherkids went out with 30+ volunteer guides - in spite of the heat, the kids caught a lot of fish!
The Lake Vermilion Fire Brigade (LVFB) had busy week: a 911 stranded boater call during the 4th of July thunderstorm and a medical emergency on July 7th
