Lake Vermilion Fire Brigade Responds to Two Emergency Calls

The Lake Vermilion Fire Brigade (LVFB) had busy week:  a 911 stranded boater call during the 4th of July thunderstorm and a medical emergency on July 7th

On July 4th, Polley's annual fireworks display, as always, briought in many boaters, unfortunately a big thunderstorm with high winds, lightning and driving rain, rolled in at the start of the show and boaters quickly headed home.  St. Louis County Emergency Dispatch called the LVFB and stated that a fleeing boat was stranded somewhere in Wakem-up Bay.  Brigade I was dispatched and was able to locate the stranded boat near Center Island where some good Samaritans with a pontoon boat were struggling to tow the boat to a safe harbor. LVFB's Brigade I escorted both boats to the nearest docks and were met by a St. Louis County Deputy Sheriff.  All boaters were safe and will not forget the estimated 60 mph winds, blinding rain, and their rescue by the Brigade.

On July 7th Brigade I responded to Ludlow's Resort when a island resort guest went into anaphylactic shock from a bee sting.  A doctor, who was a guest at the resort, treated the victim, however additional treatment was necessary.  Brigade I was dispatched and quickly responded with the needed medical supplies and then picked up the EMTs from the mainland who further stabilized the patient.  She was then transported on a litter back to the mainland and taken by ambulance to the Cook Hospital.
