Summer Training

The Lake Vermilion Fire Brigade (Brigade) volunteers had a very busy summer season dividing their time among the critical mission of fire, EMS, and rescue response, continuing education and practical training, presentations and fundraising.

Training is a critical part of the Brigade and this year the Brigade planned three training sessions that included participation of other agencies and local organizations. These training sessions not only help sharpen the skills and promote camaraderie and teamwork among the participating agencies; they also provide a venue that highlights the tremendous utility of the physical resources and the endless spirit of the professional agencies and the local volunteer departments.

The training on July 15th was an EMS simulation with the Cook Ambulance Service and the Greenwood Volunteer Fire Department (GVFD). The August 4th training was a fire simulation with the Cook and Greenwood Volunteer Fire Departments. The third training held on August 7th focused on a complex wild land fire and structural fire simulation that was led by Tom Roach from the US Forest Service and Thor Pakosz from the MN Department of Natural Resources. GVFD and the Brigade provided their fireboats to transport fire fighters, equipment and to supply water.

GVFD was deeply involved in all of the major training this summer. The Brigade would like to thank Dave Fazio, Pat Trancheff, and Rick Worringer for taking the lead in this effort, and to the EMS, Fire Fighters and other volunteers who participated.
